MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING IN THE FIELD OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF HIS MAJESTY THE SULTAN AND YANG DI-PERTUAN OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE KINGDOM OF THAILAND

Background

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam with the Government of The Kingdom of Thailand on Cooperation in the Field of Information and Broadcasting was signed by His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Brunei Darussalam (now known as Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade) and His Excellency Dr. Suraklart Sathirathai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thailand on 16 August 2001 at Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.

The main purpose of this memorandum of understanding is to enhance cooperation between broadcasting and information agencies of both countries. This memorandum also focuses on human resource development through training and education, research development and communication technology and also television exchange programs.

The First Meeting of the Joint Technical Committee in the Field of Broadcasting and Information was held from 13 to 15 May 2002 in Bangkok. Thailand's delegation was led by Mr Sunchat Suchatvejapoon, Head of Director, Public Relations Department, Thailand. While Brunei Darussalam's delegation was led by Dato Paduka Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister's Office, Brunei Darussalam (now known as His Honourable Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports).

A few matters had been agreed, resulted from the meeting, between the two parties in together producing an understanding which aim to enhance cooperation between Information Department, Thailand and Broadcasting and Information Department, Prime Minister's Office. From the early stage of the meeting until now, both sides have agreed in a few teamwork areas that are:
