MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING IN THE FIELD OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT HIS MAJESTY THE SULTAN AND YANG DI-PERTUAN OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM AND THE GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA


Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of Malaysia on cooperation in the field of information and broadcasting include the following:

Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Information and Broadcasting between the Government of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of Malaysia was signed on 14 February 1992. Signing on behalf of the Government of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa bin Pehin Datu Perdana Menteri Dato Laila Utama Haji Ibrahim, Special Advisor to His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di- Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the Prime Minister's Officer cum Minister of Home Affairs, while Yang Berhormat Dato Mohamed Rahmat, the Information Minister of Malaysia signed on behalf of the Government of Malaysia

Exchange of Radio Shows

In this regard both parties have agreed to exchange tapes or cassettes containing music and songs and other broadcast materials; exchange of scripts and broadcast materials on the cultural living of the ethnics including news, religion, entertainment, sports, drama and culture as well as development in their respective countries, and also exchange of special programmes to be published on the day of remembrance or historic day including the National Day of the two countries, conducting joint radio broadcasting and publications such as songs request and berbalas-balas pantun.

Exchange of TV Shows

The exchange of TV shows covers the exchange of film, video and television broadcasting programmes on development, economy, culture and social in both countries; exchange television programmes covering news, religion, entertainment, sports, drama, and culture in their respective countries and conducting exchange of other broadcast materials; regularly broadcast and publish joint-television programmes such as drama, documentary, entertainment, sports and culture.

Government Information Services

These include the exchange of publications, exhibition materials, documentary films or other materials, and use the materials as explanatory materials in accordance with their respective policies and requirements. 

News and Publications

Organised exchange of publications and news and to encourage print media in in both countries to upload the news from their respective country's official sources.

Films and Videos

In this area both parties agreed to exchange films and documentary videos and others for their common interests and benefits as well as collaborating in the production of films and videos.

Exchange, Visits and Placement

The two countries also agreed to exchange visits and placements for radio and television broadcasters, artists, dramatists, including information and broadcasting officials.

Education/ Training and Research

In order to enhance skills and expertise, both parties agreed to exchange radio and television and also information trainers in their respective countries; conduct training for trainers at the Tun Abdul Razak Institute of Technology (IPTAR) in Kuala Lumpur as well as exchange of research findings on the development of communication technology and the production of film, video and mass media in country radio stations / television respectively.

Implementation of cooperation program

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa, Special Advisor to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the Prime Minister's Office cum Minister Home Affairs exchange Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Information and Broadcasting with Yang Berhormat Dato Mohamed Rahmat, Information Minister of Malaysia.

With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding it is expected to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries in the field of information and broadcasting and further enhance the friendship, understanding and knowledge between the people and the citizen of both countries.
