BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Saturday, January 23. - We need to hoist the flag of Brunei Darussalam (NBD) as a sign of gratitude and joy and brighten the days of culture, such as the Royal Wedding and Birthday of His Majesty Paduka Seri Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
In addition, it is a landmark for the celebration of the great days of the country, also to express and instill the spirit of patriotism and nationalism among the people and residents of this country.
This is one of the essence of the Nationhood Briefing ‘Our Sovereign, Appreciating the National Flag and the National Anthem of Brunei Darussalam’ presented by the Acting Assistant Information Officer, Dayang Zurairah binti Haji Lisa at the Awang Semaun Secondary School Library (SMAS).
Dayang Zurairah also shared a guideline using the National Flag, among which the flagpole used in front of buildings and residential houses should not exceed 20 feet or 6.09 meters high.
Residential or flat houses that do not have an area to erect flagpoles, can be fastened to a single pillar on a veranda or wall with a 30-degree inclination.
While hotels and similar buildings should hoist the flag on the building or in front of the building provided that the flagpole is not hoisted to the ground.
If the hotel has its own flag, then the flagpole should be placed to the left of the NBD Flagpole. While the flagpole is not less than 10 feet if above the building and if in front of the building is not less than 20 feet high.
A total of 97 SMAS Year 7 students had the opportunity to listen to the briefing and then watch the video clip 'Semarak Pengibaran Bendera Negara' and the animated video 'Tatacara Menaikkan Bendera Negara'.
The briefing ended with a quiz based on the information presented with the intention of further strengthening the spirit of solidarity, patriotism and high nationhood in themselves.
