'Fly our nat'l flag properly with pride, sovereignty'

BELAIT Friday, June 22, 2012 - THE importance of waving the national flag in the correct manner was underscored yesterday during the National Flag Waving Campaign for the upcoming celebrations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 66th birthday in the Belait District.
A total of 100 Kg Sungai Teraban residents were presented with flags during the event which was held at the Community Hall of the village.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) Permanent Secretary Dr Hj Affendy Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin in his speech said that it was the responsibility of every individual to fly the national flag properly, under the sovereignty of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as a symbol of respect and loyalty to the country and ruler.
"We are really fortunate to be living in a peaceful and prosperous country," said the permanent secretary.
The campaign, he said, was also aimed at instilling patriotism among the community, for them to live in unity, and to uphold the Islamic sovereignty in Brunei.
"The flag does not just symbolise the unity of the citizens but it also represents our national pride," said Dr Hj Affendy.
He also applauded the proactive involvement and teamwork of Sungai Teraban residents and Village Consultative Council, and expressed hopes that the cooperation would continue in order to ensue success of more projects.
"The show of cooperation nad togetherness could be a positive influence towards the next generation who would carry the future activities of the village," said the permanent secretary
A talk was also presented by an official from the National Adat Istiadat Department (Brunei Ceremonial Customs) Pg Dr Hidop Pg Hj Shamsudin, where he explained about the role and functions of the national flag.
That was followed by a video presentation entitled "Kibarkan Dengan Megah Bendera Negara" which was loosely translates to "Fly the national flag with pride".
The event was also attended by members of the Belait Legislative Council, penghulus and village heads as well as heads of government departments.
The campaign will continue to the Belalong Hall in the Temburong District on June 26 and the Dato Pemancha Saging Ukong Primary School in the Tutong District on June 28.

Information Department in collaboration with Scholarship Division, Ministry of Education organising a Civic Course for Bruneian studying abroad that will be held from Monday, January 14 to Thursday, January 17. The 4 days event will be held at Dewan Pengiran Setia Negara, Information Department, Old Airport in Berakas and also at the SEAMEO Voctech Regional Centre, Gadong.
