National flag-hoisting campaign launched
THE national flag is a symbol of the nation's identity and that every citizen has a responsibility to respect the flag, said Acting minister of Home Affairs yesterday.
Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Halbi Hj Mohd Yussof said that participation in flag-hoisting is a sign of singularity, harmony and prosperity in the nation
The acting minister was speaking during the launching of the national flag-hoisting campaign in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam 66th birthday celebrations at Lambak Kiri Berakas A Secondary School yesterday.
A press statement by the Information Department said the objective of the campaign was also to enhance awareness of the citizen's of this country about their roles and responsibilities to raise and fly the flag during the days of national greatness, especially in marking His Majesty's birthday.
During the ceremony, students and invited guests also had the opportunity to hear a talk on the national flag by Yang Amat Mulia Pg Seri Wijaya Pg Hj Ahmad Pg Hj Mohd Yussof, Senior Assistant to Chief of State Adat Istiadat, who explained the challenges, function and role of the national flag as a "symbol of identity, a catalyst of nationalism, race and national pride"
During the event more than 100 people received the national flag from the guest of honour.
With the nation pushing for increased patriotism, the flag-hoisting campaign itself is another initiative by the government remind its people to feel pride when they see their flag being raised on important events throughout the year.

Information Department in collaboration with Scholarship Division, Ministry of Education organising a Civic Course for Bruneian studying abroad that will be held from Monday, January 14 to Thursday, January 17. The 4 days event will be held at Dewan Pengiran Setia Negara, Information Department, Old Airport in Berakas and also at the SEAMEO Voctech Regional Centre, Gadong.
The guest of honour during the opening ceremony is Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.
