The Information Department, under the Prime Minister's Office, held a ceremony to celebrate Israk Mikraj at its headquarters in the government offices' complex at the Old Airport.
The guest of honour at the ceremony was Haji Mahrub bin Haji Murni, the Director of Information. It was also attended by over 40 officers and staff of the department.
A religious talk by Ustaz Fansuri Samsuri Mohd Ali, from the Islamic Dakwah Centre, was conducted during the ceremony, which began with a welcoming speech by Awang Kassim bin Haji Abd Rahman, an information officer as the chairman of the event.
The Israk and Mikraj in Islam's history celebrates the two parts of a journey that Prophet Muhammad undertook in one night, in 621AD, which many Muslims consider as a physical journey yet some Islamic scholars consider a dream.
Nevertheless, the story is celebrated every year through a festival primarily for children, and at this festival Muslims bring their children to mosques, where they are then told the story, allowed to pray with the adults, and afterwards treated with food.
