Each district consist of several mukim (a mukim consist of a group of villages) led by a District Officer under the purview of the District Office, Ministry of Home Affairs.
There are 17 mukim in Brunei Muara district comprising of 105 villages; while the Tutong district has eight mukim with 41 villages; the Belait district with seven mukim comprising of 27 villages; and Temburong district with five mukim and 18 villages.

- Official name is Negara Brunei Darussalam.
- Capital is Bandar Seri Begawan.
- It is located on the north-west coast of Borneo Island in Southeast Asia.
- Total land area is 5765 sq. km
- Population is estimated at 406,200 people (2009) - 283,300 people in Brunei-Muara district, 67,100 in Belait district, 45,700 in Tutong district, and 10,100 people in Temburong district.
- It is divided into four districts – Brunei Muara, Tutong, Kuala Belait and Temburong.
- Malay is the official language but English is widely spoken.
- Islam is the official religion and it allows other religions to be practiced.
- National carrier is Royal Brunei Airlines.
- It has an equatorial climate, a uniform temperature, high humidity and heavy rainfall.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 25 – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended meet-the-people session in Brunei-Muara District at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital. The session was held in conjunction with His Majesty’s 64th birthday anniversary.
