The official government newspaper, Pelita Brunei, is now available three times a week, with a Monday edition available from today onwards. The move represents a stepping up by the government to provide more timely and accurate information to the public and community.

The launch was officiated by Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Wahab Juned, at the Government Printer, Old Airport.

Speaking at the launch of the Monday edition of the paper, Director of Information Department Dr Muhammad Hadi Muhammad Melayong highlighted the importance of the new edition in fulfilling the department's aspiration in providing timely news to the community.

"With this Monday edition, we expect the Pelita Brunei to be more relevant and competitive in a world full of IT expansion and new media, and finds a place within the lives of the Brunei community," said the director.

He also hoped that the Pelita Brunei will continue to play its role as His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan's official government newspaper and in particular providing information and news to the people and residents of Brunei Darussalam as per the late Sultan Hj Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien's titah during the first launch in February 15, 1956.

"With three editions of the Pelita Brunei a week, the news which will be disseminated among the public will be more up-to-date and not come in the form of news which has already been published by other media," said Dr Muhammad Hadi.

The director also pointed that the Pelita Online, an web version of the newspaper is another initiative to bolster the efforts of the "Information Department to provide government news and information to the public not just in Brunei, but wherever they are."

"What is most important is that we are able to pass the information and knowledge to the public in line with the tasks and responsibility entrusted to the Information Department," said Dr Muhammad Hadi.

He added that the Information Department anticipates that with the Monday edition, the public "will be satisfied with its news content and information."

Dr Muhammad Hadi said the Information Department will always be open to "proposals or good ideas" that will improve the publication.

"We hope that the public finds benefit from the Pelita Brunei as it is a free service and one which provides information that also raises our knowledge at the same time," he added.
